With such an amazing weekend you almost expect there to be a let down and it happened yesterday. Most of us were floored yesterday by the news that our Worship and Media Pastor Skip Mozisek is leaving us.
What makes this so tough is Skip has been with BAF from day one. He was the first employee Bil hired. He is the most creative guy on the planet and his DNA is all over this place. BAF would not be the church it is today if it weren't for the unbelievable creativity and work ethic that Skip brought each and every day.
Skip never complained and always saw the glass as way more than half full. He created a team of musicians that are second to none in any church or anywhere else for that matter. He created a team of graphic artists that have taken our church to the next level. He is one of the best graphic artists I have ever seen and he had never used Photoshop, or any other graphics program, before coming here. He has no formal training or degree in anything, but he is the master of many things and BAF is better because he has been here.
Just a side note to Pastors, none of us were hired here because of our pedigree's. We were hired because we were first called by God, second sold out to the vision to reach the lost, gifted in the areas we were called to, and loyal to our Senior Pastor. If pedigree was important to Bil then neither Skip, our Children's Pastor Cathy Harwick, Skips replacement Pastor Bryan Fiscus, our Executive Pastor Paul Schulz, or I would be here because none of us have a seminary degree.
Skip has been called back to Parkway Church in Victoria Texas. When Bil hired Skip he was part of the worship team at Parkway. We hired him from Parkway and they hired him back and it's all part of God's will as it was done completely above board and with God's blessing from all sides. Everyone involved has clearly seen God's hand in this.
Skip is part of a new team being put together because Parkway's Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor have left to go plant a new church is Florida which we will support as one of our church plants. Skip has been called by God to go home and help get a struggling church get back on it's feet. Skip grew up in Victoria and all of his and Susie's family live there. He will actually be serving on the Parkway leadership team along side his best friend as well. Skip is going home and God is all over this or he would not be leaving only weeks after watching the dream he has dreamed for BAF become a reality. Skip said something very profound yesterday, " it's easy to say you'll follow God where ever He takes you until you have to really follow God wherever He takes you."
We had a management staff meeting to hear the news yesterday followed by an all staff meeting. Many tears were shed because we all love Skip with all our hearts and losing him is like losing a family member. His spirit and DNA will always remain here though and he and his family will always be a part of our family. The good thing is he will only be two hours away and we have all pledged our support to help him get things going at Parkway.
It's a sad day for all of us but a great day for God. Skip is the perfect man for the job at Parkway. He will help bring excitement and hope to a struggling church and I believe with the team they are putting together they will take Parkway to the next level.
Skip, Susie, Ashley, Seth, and Annie, We love you guys and will miss you all more than you know. God bless and we will be watching to see how God gets His glory from this move. And we all know He will.
