As we continue starting campuses and working on the vision God has given us for Multi Site, it has reminded me of the importance of empowerment. Everyone talks about empowerment, but so many leaders aren't really practicing it because they're afraid of the consequences. Here's what empowerment means to the BAF Multi Site leadership team?
1. For the BAF Multi Site vision to continue, we must be willing to empower lay leaders to do ministry.
2. For lay leaders to be successful, we must be willing to give them the authority necessary to make real leadership decisions.
3. For lay leaders to feel confident enough to step up and make real leadership decisions, we must create an atmosphere where leaders know they have the freedom to fail!
4. If we're going to empower lay leaders to make tough leadership decisions that could end in failure, they must know that we will have their backs regardless of whether those decisions are successful, or complete failures!
Empowering lay people to lead doesn't come without problems, but seeing normal people who never saw leadership in themselves become great leaders, far outweighs any of the negatives! I feel like we as leaders have two choices, we can try to change the world by empowering our staffs, or we can try to change the world by empowering the army of believers in our church!
I don't know about you, but if I'm going in to battle, I want an army behind me!
John
